"Acadian Exiles" by FCGW members
The Acadians had strong ties to their land and wanted to remain neutral, but with each new dispute between England and France, the situation in Acadia grew more difficult. In September 1755, ships appeared in the harbor and the Acadians were transported elsewhere.
This Quarterly is devoted to stories about exiled Acadian exiles. The first, The Acadians in Exile, by William Kane, is reprinted (with the author's permission) from his book entitled Journeys taken: The search for a better life. Other articles are: The Michel Family by Susan White; Acadia to Quebec by Marilyn Bourbonnais; An Acadian Odyssey - The Michel Dupuis and Vincent Breau Family by Kateri Dupuis. In The Savois by Joyce Banachowski, we learn how three generations of this family were affected by the Le Grand Derangement. Jim Gaboury presents Acadian Doucet/Doucette Ancestors. There is a listing of parishes and churches where Acadian records have been found. The final article is a translation of Jean Gaudette's Acadian Refugees in Quebec in 1757.
