I have checked with the following: Lower Lakes Marine Historical Society, New York National Archives, Buffalo and Erie county Historical Society, Port of Buffalo, National Archives of Bayonne, N. J., W.N.Y. Heritage Inst. Canisius College of Buffalo, Archives of Ontario, Canadian National Archives of Ottawa, City of Buffalo, Erie County, New York Genealogy, Ancestry, etc. I run into a dead end wherever I look. One source told me that since there is no direct water route from Europe to Buffalo, they first had to land in Canada, and then simply walk over one of the Niagara River bridges.
